Crystal Growing

Our Fun Palace starts now!

...With a Crystal Growing Competition.

Get down to the Halton, Garstang or Lancaster library and collect your free Crystal Growing Kit (thanks to the Royal Society of Chemistry and Lancaster University).

Join the challenge and grow a single crystal of potassium alum over the summer. Get your crystal to Lancaster Library to be judged on Saturday, October 6th as part of the Lancaster Fun Palace weekend activities. The judges will consider the crystal’s clarity, size and shape; the biggest crystal may not necessarily win.

Sorry, the kits available at Lancaster library have now all gone.

(Potassium alum is a low hazard chemical, making this challenge suitable for all ages. However, supervision is recommended for the younger challengers due to the handling of hot liquids).

The More the Merrier!

We are pleased to announce that this year our colleagues at Lancaster City Museum will also be taking part, so we will be holding some events and sessions next door in the museum.

Wanted: Creative, technical, arty, scientific people

We want creative, technical, arty, scientific people to take over 20 cultural buildings across Lancashire and share their skills and show how things work. And have fun! If you're interested, please let us know HERE.
