Fun Palaces, Cultural Democracy and How to Handover
This workshop is for anyone who wants to make a Fun Palaces, find new ways to co-create with local communities or find out how they can embed cultural democracy in to the work of their organisation.
Community engagement has long been hugely important for many arts and cultural venues and organisations, with many considering how best to engage with local communities.
Fun Palaces have always encouraged venues and spaces to hand-over to their communities, rather than ‘create for’. Join members of the Fun Palaces team and Fun Palaces Makers to find out how you can successfully hand-over to your local community. Here is an offer of how you might do things differently (or maybe you already are, and this will help to consolidate and support that thinking.)

Creative Riots
The power of protest.
In this workshop we invite to join our Creative Riots campaign, looking at ways creative riots and protest can be used from the grassroots up to change the world. Learn ways to hand over to your local community, to support them in having a creative voice and influence over policy making on a local and national scale.
In response to the Cost of Living crisis and climate change, amongst other things, the Creative Riots campaign invites us to come together and dream up ways to creatively challenge these issues we face.

Dance, talk or be lifted up to where you can see how other people make things work. Sit out over space with a drink and tune in to what’s happening elsewhere in the city. Try starting a riot or beginning a painting – or just lie back and stare at the sky.” – Joan Littlewood
It’s hard to have a voice when there is not enough money, and the numbers don’t add up. It’s hard to have a voice when it feels like there’s only one story being told, across every billboard in the land. We spend a lot of time talking about the “handling tools, paint, babies”, “learn how to dance” parts of the quote above, but the “starting a riot” part is important too. If you don’t like how things are going in the world, well, maybe you hold one of the keys for changing that.
