Description

Join us at Westminster Music Library for a restorative mindfulness session guided by the live, ancient tones of the Guqin.

In classical Chinese philosophy, sound is a healing force. This unique event features a live performance of Guqin, a seven stringed zither steeped in history. Its music is centered around the Five Pentatonic Tones (Wu Yin), which correspond directly to our body’s five internal organ systems (Zang-Fu) and the natural elements:

  • Jiao (Wood): Nourishes the Liver and promotes smooth energy flow.
  • Zhi (Fire): Balances the Heart and fosters emotional clarity.
  • Gong (Earth): Strengthens the Spleen and grounds the mind.
  • Shang (Metal): Supports the Lungs and encourages deep, cleansing breath.
  • Yu (Water): Vitalises the Kidneys and restores inner calm.

During this session, you will experience the resonant frequencies of the Guqin as they fill the tranquil library space. Follow musician Shanshan Chen’s guqin live melodies and meditation practitioner Linshu Shen’s mindfulness guide, let’s harmonise our body and mind, ease stress and restore balance.
