Description
Help us build the Monument to Fun Palace the way you want it – you’re building out the walls! We’re building a slightly smaller version (a lot smaller actually!) of the Fun Palace – complete with a 30 seat theatre and a whole lot of scaffolding. With the help of the UCOL design Fine Arts students and theatre maker/architects Stephen Bain and Oliver Morse we’re building a monument in honour of Joan Littlewood and Cedric Price’s Fun Palace. We’re getting the Whanganui community to help us put on the finishing touches!
Listen to the community and hear what the neighbours think with Small Talks, make junk fashion and junk instruments and parade with the Norns, make a mess, make some weird noise with the Sound Mechanics Neil and Rosie with their extraordinary instruments, make a song without words in Body Sound with Whetu Fala, make more noise with Yee Ley Lau in Organicity get squidgy in the plasticine gallery, make a Zine or get creative your way with the folks from Whanganui Creative Spaces or bring in your broken but irreplaceables and sort things out with Whanganui Repair Cafe.
Paint, upcycle, fabricate, smoosh, squish, think, play and create. Whoever you are, young, old or in-between, the Fun Palace is a space for everyone to embrace their creativity and culture whatever that looks like.
Fun Palace events are FREE, and even if you aren’t registered, you are able to attend events on the day. If you have any questions, please contact us directly on Facebook: @funpalaceswhanganui
The monument is being built on the forecourt of the Whanganui War Memorial Centre and we have some satellite hubs as well joining in the fun: The Whanganui Musicians club, Te Whare o Rehua Serjeant Gallery, and Alexander Library.
