Doing Creative Acts of Activism Collectively

This section explores the embodied – lived and felt – experiences of making a Fun Palace and/or being involved in creative activities with your community.

“…because you’re focusing on that thing you’re doing, it takes your focus away on anything that’s on your mind as well. I think that’s kind of a really key. Erm, so, yeah, you’re just there in the moment, aren’t you? You’re not in the past or the present. You’re in that moment. So, that’s really helpful to do that sometimes.”

“Quite often…people don’t actually realise the skills that they, they possess themselves…until they start thinking about sharing things.”

“…you’ve got that goal. You’ve got that shared buzz. You’ve got that, sort of, yeah, shared brief of, of what you’re doing, um, with some flexibility to, kind of, find your own place in it.”

“I think…the beauty of the Fun Palaces is that you can capture a, a really diverse group of people who come together for a certain period of time while it’s running and they all forget their prejudices for that time that they’re involved, whether they come back when they leave the site, but for that period of time they’re sharing in the activities that are going on and, and forgetting the crap from outside.”
