Description

Celebrate the vision of Joan Little wood and Cedric Price!

In past Fun Palaces we built time machines, recited poetry from ladders, watched robots roam, listened to Iraqi love songs, and explored the origins of the universe. We celebrated the art and science of the Russian Revolution, engaged in long conversations, and let our spirits soar.

This year, we invite everyone to join once more. We predict there will be a Chinese tea ceremony; the participants in a Co-operative Poetry Competition; playing with computerised tactile sound threads; folk music; English dance; Mandarin poetry; ’Cedric Price and anarchist architecture’ a lecture; an explanation of the relationship between maths and music; Shakespeare sonnets … Whether you bring an experiment, a poem, a biscuit, or just yourself, celebrate the culture within and help build another unforgettable Fun Palace.

“I think it making a Fun Palace means that the culture of science, of poetry, of dancing and art and making is fundamental and crucial…. If there’s any way to have a healthy and better society, it’s to have Fun Palaces every day for 365 days…. everything we need is inside us”

What to expect

Tea and biscuits throughout.

At 12 noon there will be an illustrated talk on Cedric Price, architecture and anarchism by Can Yildiz

At 2pm there will be the celebratory reading of poets who entered the Torriano Co-operative Competition

At 6pm we will be stopping all the doing and talking and invite you to be in a quiet space for a Chinese Buddhist tea ceremony

Apart from these three fixed points all the other activities will happen spontaneously, as and when. We predict there will be  playing with computerised tactile sound threads; folk music; English dance; Mandarin poetry;  an explanation of the relationship between maths and music; Shakespeare sonnets; jigsaws; chess; 'Let's create our dream Kentish Town' session; collagraph printmaking; exploring moral psychology …
